32 Teams in 32 Days: San Diego Chargers

9th of July, 2012

In 2011, the Chargers had arguably their worst season under quarterback Philip Rivers. The once sure bet fantasy starter turned into a mediocre one last season. And while we can credit some of his efforts to injuries on the offensive side, many experts believe Philip Rivers struggles with accuracy and decision-making. The shining star for […]

Running Back Breakout Seasons: The Sophomore Slump

9th of July, 2012

This isn’t about predicting a breakout season for a running back. Instead, this is about what happens to players after they put up top numbers for the first time in their careers.

For this analysis, I’ve defined “breakout season” as the following:

A player has a breakout season when he finishes in the fantasy football top 20 at his position for the first time in his career.

32 Teams in 32 Days: Detroit Lions

8th of July, 2012

Matthew Stafford played his first full season as the starter in Detroit last season. No big deal – he just finished with over 5,000 yards and 41 touchdown throws. Oh, and he helped Calvin Johnson have the most dominating wide receiver performance since Randy Moss in 2007. In 2011, we saw one of the highest […]

32 Teams in 32 Days: Indianapolis Colts

7th of July, 2012

Last year, the Colts were Manning-less. For the first time since 1998, the Colts played a game, followed by an entire season, without number 18 behind center. And we sure saw just how important Peyton Manning was to that team. That team now looks completely different. Manning is out of town, Garcon is too, they’ve […]

32 Teams in 32 Days: San Francisco 49ers

6th of July, 2012

The 49ers surprised us all last year. While the team didn’t put up unbelievable numbers from a fantasy football standpoint, they sure as heck could win football games. The defense was the shining star of this team last season. Not only did they lead the 49ers to an NFC Championship appearance, but they finished as […]

Peyton Manning, Michael Vick and Risk vs. Reward

5th of July, 2012

The whole concept of risk vs. reward is what drives most fantasy football valuations. I can tell you to draft Jamaal Charles in the second round, but you may feel his coming off of a torn ACL (his risk) far outweighs his potential to reproduce the numbers he posted in 2010 (his reward). This idea […]

32 Teams in 32 Days: Miami Dolphins

5th of July, 2012

You know you had a dreadful season when the shining star on your team, from a fantasy perspective, was Reggie Bush. Seriously though, he was quite a surprise even after a mediocre start to the season. While so many drafted rookie Daniel Thomas, others (including myself – humble brag) drafted Bush in the later rounds. […]

32 Teams in 32 Days: Washington Redskins

2nd of July, 2012

The Redskins offense went through a major overhaul this off-season, adding not only a new quarterback in Robert Griffin III, but some extra players at the wide receiver position. Pierre Garcon and Josh Morgan joined Santana Moss in Washington, and Skins’ fans are hoping they can help create a magical rookie season for RGIII. Unfortunately, […]

32 Teams in 32 Days: Denver Broncos

1st of July, 2012

Training camps. Fantasy football mock drafts. The Home Run Derby. Beer. July. During this phenomenal month of anticipation, I plan to bring some fantasy football insight for each team in the NFL. I’ve creatively coined this “32 Teams in 32 Days”. Man, my originality has hit an ESPN low, hasn’t it? But what better way […]

Value Based Drafting: Version 2

28th of June, 2012

The goal in drafting a successful fantasy football team is to select a lineup that creates the most value. I talk about this concept a lot throughout The Late Round Quarterback. It’s easily my favorite word to describe logical, sound fantasy football selections. Joe Bryant created a system a while back that is now referenced […]
